A leading Couture designer in South Africa, Gert-Johan Coetzee is a name everyone has become familiar with. Born in Koster in the North West province, his passion for design began at the tender age of six when he began to dress his pencils in dresses made of tissue paper.
Gert took a leap of faith and followed his passion for design by dropping out of high school at age 16 and enrolled in the North West School of Design. At the age of 19 won South Africa’s Most Promising Young Designer award in 2006 as well as other numerous awards at a junior level in years prior to that.
After launching his self-entitled label in 2010 and only a year later, made history by being the first South African designer to have his creations worn by numerous Hollywood celebrities on the red carpet. Speaking of celebrities, Gert has a long list of local and international clients such as Miss South Africa title winners, Bonang Matheba, Basetsana Khumalo, Kourtney Kardashian, Lira, Kristin Cavallari and many more.
Over the years, he has made significant strides in his career, showing at major fashion week shows in Africa and oversees. His designs have been worn in major fashion events in South Africa earning his place as one of South Africa’s most successful and beloved designers.
