Fashion is more than beauty…it is a language and a movement.
South Africa has had several icons who have inspired the fashion industry for many decades.
The late Nelson Mandela revolutionised the dashiki shirt, proudly known as the “Madiba shirt” to locals, Popular singer (late) Brenda Fassie gave black women confidence in their freedom by her bold and unapologetic style which was easily recognizable by her blonde hair and multi-coloured beaded apparel.
Another African icon Yvonne Chaka Chaka not only travelled the world representing Africa with her music and humanitarian work but also with her impeccable style. She was known for fusing the classic Zulu attire with the Ankara. Her unique style was as unique as her music.
There are many more style icons from all over the continent such as Iman, Koffi Olomide, Miriam Makeba and many more who have successfully solidified Africa's place in the fashion industry.
