As we know, trends come and go. What most people don’t realize is that there are people behind the scenes who predict upcoming trends.
A fashion trend forecaster predicts colours, fabrics, materials, prints, accessories, footwear and other styles before they hit the market as a trend. They look at the market and current trends and make predictions of styles that will go into fashion.
Trend forecasters know the ins and outs of fashion on a global scale and apply their expertise in marketing and consumer psychology to identify possible trends.
To become a trend forecaster, you would need analytical and creative skills paired with media savviness and knowledge of multiple industries. Courses in Psychology, Sociology and anthropology would be beneficial, as well as marketing and/or strategy training.
